Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
